Programme Description

The International Baccalaureate (IB) Programme of Hillsborough County is a magnet program that provides highly motivated college-bound students the opportunity to participate in a rigorous liberal arts curriculum. The program is a four-year course of study with two phases: Grades 9 and 10 are the pre-diploma Programme, and Grades 11 and 12 make up the IB Diploma Programme. Students apply in 8 th grade to enter the program beginning in 9 th grade.

Application Period Begins November 16 at Noon

During the Application Period, students currently enrolled in Hillsborough County Public Schools (HCPS) may apply online at www.sdhc.k12.fl.us/magnet/. Students not currently enrolled in HCPS need to download the all-in-one paper application at http://www.mysdhc.org/magnet.

Currently there are four high schools offering the IB Diploma Programme: Hillsborough, King, Robinson, and Strawberry Crest. The school for which your application will be considered is determined by your Hillsborough County residential address.

Prerequisite:

You must complete Algebra I or Algebra I Honors (preferred) by the end of 8 th grade with a “C” or higher each semester.

Eligibility Factors:

  • GPA: Grades earned in core subjects from 7th grade and part of 8th grade
  • Test scores: Standardized test scores from 6th and/or 7th grade
  • Writing sample: An official writing sample is part of the magnet high school application.
  • Students currently enrolled in Hillsborough County Public Schools will take their 8th grade Writing Assessment at their current middle school.
  • Non-HCPS or non-charter 8th grade students must attend one of the scheduled writing sessions. Click here for a list of current dates and locations.
